Sorry for the long delay in posting! Welcome to our student teachers from the University of Ottawa, Tania Koreny and Kelly O'Hara. We are very busy at school right now with a number of exciting projects. We have been making posters and writing essays to commemorate Remembrance Day. Students who wish to will be able to submit their work to the legion for their annual conference. Parents, watch for permission forms to come home in the next week. We are finishing up our science unit on Energy and beginning a new study of Structures. In Social Studies, we will move our study of government to focus on the federal government. In math, we will be studying measurement with a particular focus on making change. I encourage students to practice this at home.

Here is a little snapshot of some things we are working on right now:

We are making shoebox museums. We are decorating the outside of the box in art class and will be filling it with special items about us. These can be photos, drawings, magazine clippings or other small items. Please find 10 items to put in your box by Friday.
We are learning about energy in science and will design superheroes that use forms of energy for their superheroes.
In social studies we are learning about our government and keeping an eye on the upcoming municipal election.
In math we are working on number sense. We have been learning our times tables, reading big numbers, and filling out cheques to use number words.
In reading we are in training! We are learning how to work on various independent reading jobs because soon we will be meeting in small groups for reading lessons.
